I have been getting together with a friend lately to try and do artwork. We knew starting out that we would have some failures and boy did we! But we had some great success too! We have been applying gesso to burlap and then using an overhead projector, putting the image onto the burlap. Funny, we both did horses and the horses look incredible. I hung mine in the dining room.
It is fun to just let go and get creative! What have you tried to do lately?

Hollywood Goes Social Networking
Did you know there is a movie coming out called "Social Network"? At least I think that is the name of it. Even Hollywood is getting on board with the social media thing!
On another front, my cat, Lucy, has been sick. She was throwing up after every meal. This was not fun for any of us. Took her to the vet and the best that that can figure out is she was really constipated! Once they opened her up, she seemed to be okay. I just hope she stays this way! Thought she had a hairball, but the xrays did not show one. Anyway, pray that she stays healthy!

Googley-eyed
Have you ever felt googley-eyed over something that someone was trying to explain to you or you were trying to learn? Boy, I am feeling that way right now. There is so much to learn regarding social media and how to use it to promote your business, etc.
My new job at Soluverse as Social Media Director is quite an opportunity for me. I am blessed to have people in my life that have faith in my abilities to do this job and I want to do a good job for them. There is so much "stuff" to sift through. I will be learning a lot in the next couple of months.
You never know where life's paths are going to take you, but I have the feeling I am about to embark on a big adventure! Stay tuned!

Another Facebook Story
One day, I was going through my emails and there was a facebook message from someone that I have not heard from in years asking me if I was Deb Sanderson from Fort Wayne who worked at GTE. Well, as it turns out, the person was a girl named Pam who I worked with at GTE. We had some crazy times together! I was thrilled to reconnect with her. I don't think this would have ever happened without facebook. You just never know who you are going to reconnect with in the future! Try reconnecting with someone that you have not seen in awhile -- it is really fun!

Everyone keeps saying how great Facebook is. I kept thinking, how can it be that good. Well, here is something that happened with a facebook posting that Kent did. You see, I have been decorating vintage bottles with vintage "things". My friend, Genia Gilchrist, has been selling them in her shop in Nashville. Kent was talking about them on facebook and my sister wanted to see them, so he posted a picture. Well, now I have people in Indiana, Florida, and Texas talking about them! Now my only problem is WHERE DO I FIND LOTS OF BOTTLES!?? I guess it is A Good Thing.

Things I Learned from my Webinar
I knew what a Seminar was, but I had never heard of a Webinar. A Webinar is where you go to a site and log in and listen to someone giving an online seminar. It was really cool. I sat in the comfort of my own house, ate lunch, took notes, and learned a lot. One thing I liked (and understood) the best was how to do a Google search that takes you to a more focused search. You just type in ___________(your focus or business type) Social Media Sites. It is amazing what comes up. You need to try it! I guess it doesn't take much to entertain me. Have a great weekend. Deb

Please Pray
My neice, Danielle, has really been through the ringer! She has had leukemia and survived and has been doing great. Then, recently, she found out she had a tumor on her spine and had it removed. They are trying to figure out exactly what is going on. She has been to cancer doctors, the University of Michigan, and Indiana University. Indiana U suggested she may need to have some family members tested for a blood disorder. Also, they are saying she needs chemo. My heart aches for her and her mom. Please pray that this is taken care of easily and she is healed completely. Thanks. Deb

Really?
Have you heard of the phrase real-time? I must have been living under a rock because I did not know what real-time meant! Briefly, real-time refers to a time frame that is very brief, appearing to be immediate. For example, a website that is updated in real-time will allow its viewers to see changes as soon as they occur. Real-time also refers to Twitter tweets because it happens immediately. Really? Yes, really.

The Power of # (Hashtag)
When on Twitter, you can call attention to a subject by simply typing a # and then your word, i.e., #socialmedia. This will create a convention of people who are interested in social media. Let me know if you have done this.

Today I sent everyone in my emails an invitation to join me on Twitter. Hope it works! I must admit, things are beginning to get a little clearer. Hope you are learning something new too. Take care until tomorrow.

Twitter 101
I did my homework already. This is how I did Direct Messages (DM):
On the your Twitter page go to the Right Sidebar
Click on Direct Messages
Screen shows SEND with a drop down box
Click on the name you want from the drop down box
Type message
Hit send
To import people from your email list, this is what I did:
On the top bar of the Twitter page, click Find People
On the next screen, click Find Friends
Go to your server (shown to the left) and click on it (mine is Gmail)
Type in your password in the space that says Password
Click Find Friends
A screen will show your email addresses that are on Twitter
Click on each individual Follow box or Follow All box - Requests to follow will be sent to those people.
Now, that wasn't all that difficult, was it?
You can change your Twitter background:
Sign into Twitter and click Settings (top right menu bar)
The Settings page opens
In the Design Tab, select a premade background or use your own image (Click Change Background Image) link below pattern images. Then upload a file by clicking the Browse button and finding your image on your computer.
You can even Tile the background, change colors, or tile your company logo. But, hey, we are just learning, so let's just try changing the background. I will meet you back here when you are done!

Twitter 101
Micro-blogging is the biggest platform on the web and Twitter is definitely the biggest! As I said in my first post, I am just learning about this and hope you will learn right along with me. Twitter is broadcasting "real time" to your readers.
Twitter, in regards to social networking, can be used as a tool to build your brand and raise awareness. Twitter branding is a lot more personal because of the IM (instant messaging) environment -- it thins the line between you and your readers.
Some other benefits I have found out about Twitter in regards to social networking is:
Twitter can give you honest and live feedback
Networking - Follow peers, open up to mutual promotional work, and build future business relationships
Market and pitch your products and services
You can also publicize and promote blog posts on Twitter
Now, we just need to figure out HOW to do all this!
The following are notes I have taken about Twitter. Again, I am not even sure what all this means exactly, but everyday, I seem to find out more and more. I will keep delving into this until I really know what I am talking about!
Direct Messages (DM) - Only the recipient sees the message. You can send a DM to someone who is following you. To see if someone is following you and to send a direct message:
1. On the User's Profile page, click that person's @username anywhere you see it, or type into the URL bar on your web browser after Twitter.com
2. Under the "Actions" in the right side bar, if it says block so and so, then you cannot DM them
3. Click the "Message" link
4. Compose your direct message in this box. Click send.
B. How to Import Contact Lists to Twitter
1. Select the email account type from which you want to import on the LEFT side of the Twitter screen. Type your email credentials in the Your Email and Email Password text boxes
2. Twitter looks at your contact list from your email account and gives you a list of all the people from your address book who are on Twitter
3. Check boxes of people you want to follow
4. Click Continue button
5. Repeat for all other networks
6. You can also click Find People and search
So I guess we have a little homework at this point. I am going to sign off and try these things out. I will let you know what happens!
Let me know what you find out too.

So much to learn...........................
Hello! Today I created a blog to help me learn about Social Media. I have been a reluctant learner, but am now finding it necessary to learn more about it. Basically what has happened is I have been hired by a company to be their Social Media Director! Okay, why would someone hire me for that position if I did not know much about Social Media. Well, they want me to learn it from the bottom up and teach them what I find out about it. The company is just starting up so naturally there is not a big pot of money to pay me yet --but there will be! I can't wait to get started AND learn about this phenomenon!
So, let's start out simple and learn together. What is your thoughts on Social Media? Let me know and lets get the chit chat going!
